Classic Hits: New York’s Pioneering Subway Graffiti Writers

Friday June 1, 2012, 7:30 PM:  PRESENTATION & SIGNING at Greenlight Bookstore, New York: Classic Hits: New York’s Pioneering Subway Graffiti Writers, published by Dokument Press

Authors Alan Fleisher (Ale 1) and Paul Iovino (Skay) will talk briefly about their experiences and host a signing with writers featured in the book, including Blade 1 and Taki 183, to a custom-made soundtrack of 1970s hits!

From Taki 183 to Blade to Iz the Wiz. Their names have garnered star status far beyond graffiti culture, and their work have spawned contemporary artists like Banksy, Seen and Revok. In Classic Hits: New York’s Pioneering Subway Graffiti Writers, the pioneers talk about how they got started and where graffiti took them. Together, the essays offer an invaluable picture of graffiti in the early, playful years.

Thursday, May 10 | 7 PM Funk Dance Party Chuck Brown Rich Medina

Chuck Brown is the Godfather of Go-Go, music that combines funk, R&B, and early hip-hop with call and response and a syncopated beat. Since single-handedly creating Go-Go music in the ’70s, Brown has continued creating infectious grooves and is one of the most sampled artists of all time.

Rich Medina, one of New York’s favorite DJs, will warm up the evening with a sonic journey through hiphop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul.

O, Yeah! 10 years and growing...

We thank each and every customer and look forward to hosting more school and adult groups, friends, families, spouses and last but not least hip hop heads from across the globe.  Thank you Joshua Palmes for the acknowledgment.

Wendy Williams got out in time…did she know something all along (How you doing?) But on a serious note, this is definitely a sign of the times. As most radio stations are struggling due to the advent of internet radio and ipods of course urban stations are hit the hardest.  Would be nice to hear fresh content and new on air personalities.
